Big Changes Now and in the Future…
You may have noticed a couple of late or skipped posts lately. Well, I promise I have a good reason. My family and I have completely shaken things up! We sold our house, moved in with my in-laws and started the process of building a new home. With those changes we have faced some new struggles and are trying to adjust as quickly as possible.
Selling Our Home For the Past Six Years
If you have ever sold a home, you know how stressful and emotional it can be. My husband and I have had a serious “love/hate” relationship with our first home. It started off needing a ton of work; a new roof, termite damage repair, and so much more. We wanted desperately to turn this old 80’s house around and were focusing on major repairs first. WE DID A LOT! A complete remodel of the front yard, a basically new pool in place of a giant destroyed pool, new heating and cooling, added a garage… and the list goes on.
We were finally getting the house into good shape and were getting ready for the fun part, remodeling the inside. There was so much planning, research, and budgeting. Then one day, while driving through one of my favorite neighborhoods we saw a sign… an open house sign. I had always wanted to see what these beautiful Victorian style homes looked like on the inside. It too, like so many houses in the area, needed a bunch of work. Next thing we knew we were back in the car and heading off to check out model homes. We had no idea that in one moment, with the decision to peek at an open house, we would spark this journey and would call it quits on our money pit and move on.
Once our home was listed, it had multiple offers and sold the very first day. We had spent weeks rushing around painting, fixing and deep cleaning just for it to go so quickly. It is really strange and I don’t know if it is just me being weird, but I got very emotional. I hated this house and it’s small bathrooms, lack of storage and never ending repairs list, but I was sad. This was our first house for our family, it was where we watched our daughter go from a small child to tweenager. Where I we brought our son home from the hospital. I had to convince myself that now it was another couple’s turn to make memories here. I said goodbye to our old house.
Moving in With Family
Let me first say that we are so lucky and grateful for the awesome family that we have. Not everyone gets the opportunity to live rent/mortgage free to help save money for a new home. My in-laws have a beautiful home out in the desert, it is fairly quiet and kind of secluded… conveniences that we are used to are now gone. My daughter was able to walk a very short walk to her previous school, I now have to drive a few miles on a dirt road then another few miles on a paved road just to get her to the bus stop this takes an hour out of my day. Before we had a grocery store within a mile of home, now, 15 miles. We are having to adjust our schedules, routines and days to accommodate these changes.
Internet and cellphone service is hard to come by. It is really strange sometimes I can get calls but most of the time I can’t and rely heavily on the time that I am at the store to get my text messages and voicemails. We are working on solutions and hopefully I will be back up and running on a regular schedule soon.
Looking Ahead
Our new home building adventure has officially begun. We chose our floor plan, and just yesterday spent the day with our builder’s design staff selecting flooring, cabinetry, countertops, etc.
I am so excited for when we do get to move in and I can start sharing my experiences and projects with all of you.
Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for more new content!
