Are you feeling overwhelmed with The Holidays and don’t know what to gift the people you love? Well I totally feel you and am here to help with my holiday gift guide. I have struggled with gift giving for what has now been almost two decades! Yikes! This year I am here to help you. Using the 10 categories below helps keep me focused and makes the gifts more practical. I don’t know about you, but without direction I find myself just wasting money buying un-needed or even unwanted gifts.

You of course should only pick and chose which categories work for you to gift. Always keep within your budget. I hope you find this post useful, enjoy!

Holiday gift guide: 10 categories

Clothing Essential:

A lot of people buy a fun set of jammies for Christmas morning. I personally like the idea of the idea of gifting these on Christmas Eve. But for my family we will do new underwear, socks, or even just a new t-shirt.

Accessory:

A necklace, headband, hat, gloves, backpack, etc. For my son he will likely get a flashlight (because for him it is an accessory

Toiletry:

A fun soap or bath bomb makes a good low priced gift. Also, maybe your teen or spouse wants or needs a new hairdryer or even new beard trimmer.

Home Item:

New set of towels, washcloth, blanket, or the ever popular candle. A new water bottle or coffee mug are always good gifts.

Book:

One or two new books makes a wonderful gift… can you ever have too many books?!

Game/Puzzle:

A fun card/board game or even a puzzle all make good gifts.

Toys:

I don’t like to go too crazy with toys. Each kid gets 1-2 toys. As my daughter gets older we either get her art supplies or something tech related.

Edible:

Get a favorite food item for each person (this can totally be homemade). Beef jerky, hot chocolate, candy bar, coffee, etc. My husband’s grandmother always makes seasoned pretzels and we LOVE them.

Activity:

Check out Groupon and find something fun to do with each person individually or as a family activity.

Stocking:

Each person gets a stocking. These contain things like crayons, snacks, play-doh (see my homemade play dough recipe). It is more for practical items. I have even put new “fun” toothbrushes or mechanical pencils. Sometimes if the holiday budget has some extra room maybe a gift card or cash can be found inside.

This year I have a little one that will be four months old so I will be doing my best to stay with the holiday gift guide for him. But really he’s super young so every item will likely be a practical item. Check out my gift idea/guide for Baby’s First Christmas (coming soon).
